Nuclear Science Week
Multimedia Contest

Social media is one of the best methods for sharing our excitement about nuclear energy, and this year for Nuclear Science Week INL is inviting you to tell us what nuclear means to you. Share your favorite nuclear facts or talk about whatever nerdy nuclear factoid is your favorite!

As the host of the Nuclear Science Week national event this year, in partnership with the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History, INL will celebrate the best nuclear-themed content at our Multimedia Contest held Wednesday, Oct. 23.

To enter, simply post your content online – video, infographic, poem or whatever other creative idea you have – using the hashtags #INLNucSciWeek and #NucSciWeek and send it to [email protected]. We’ll celebrate our favorite entries and offer prizes to five winners!

Contest winners:

Those with the five top entries will each receive a $500 scholarship (for students pursuing their undergraduate degree at a U.S. accredited college). We’ll fly winners who are not students to INL to participate in Nuclear Science Week events on Oct. 21-25.

Video Example

Tips for video submission:

Keep it short

Create a 30-90 second video and graphic showcasing nuclear energy, the world’s most reliable source of clean energy.

Make it personal

Tell a story that illustrates why nuclear energy is important to you and share it with the world.

Use strong visuals

Pay attention to lighting and composition. Consider using animation to make it eye-catching.

Use music

Consider using music to set the mood and keep things interesting.

Use humor

Inject a bit of humor into your videos to engage the audience, but make sure it doesn’t offend anyone.

Keep it fresh

Experiment with new formats; try out new ideas to keep it relevant and engaging.

Be authentic

Don’t be afraid to show your personality in your content.

Have fun

If you are having a good time, it will show in the videos and get the audience engaged.

Tips for non-video submission:

Have a well-defined title

There should be no mystery about the story you are telling. Use short, catchy titles that are easy to understand and get people’s attention.

Chose the right fonts

Limit yourself to two fonts – one for the title and header and one for the body of the text.

Keep it clean and simple

If your goal is to communicate a lot of data in a simple, easy-to-understand way, leave plenty of space between each statistic and use a minimal amount of text.

Use graphics

When choosing graphics, make sure they look like they belong together.

Easy-to-follow layout

The most crucial information should be typically at the top. Organize your information with that in mind.
