Lab leads national conversation on emerging threats to critical national services

IDAHO FALLS — Recognizing the need for strategic planning to address current resilience challenges in industry and government, the second National Symposium on Resilient Critical Infrastructure (NSRCI) will be held at the Resilience Week event in Philadelphia. This symposium will complement the ongoing International Symposium on Resilient Control, Cyber, Cognitive and Communications Systems, which addresses the research challenges associated with cyber and physical security threats to critical infrastructure.

Resilience has emerged in the national conversation as the ability to continue providing the most vital services while damaged infrastructure is restored. From significant electrical infrastructure failures to potable water concerns, INL is leading efforts to understand the challenges associated with restoration of services.

Resilience Week provides an opportunity for stakeholders to understand the state of research in cyber and physical security for critical infrastructure in all 16 critical infrastructure sectors. This year, the following plenary and keynote speakers will present their perspectives on the multidisciplinary challenges associated with resilience:
• Patricia Hoffman, Department of Energy
• Richard Danzig, Center for a New American Security
• Pramod Khargonekar, National Science Foundation
• Nassim Taleb, New York University School of Engineering
• Vijay Kumar, University of Pennsylvania
• Frank Lewis, University of Texas, Arlington
• Wenjing Lou, National Science Foundation
• Jalal Mapar, Department of Homeland Security
• Najmedin Meshkati, University of Southern California
• Edward Rhyne, Department of Homeland Security
• Paul Stockton, Sonecon, LLC
• Ananthram Swami, Army Research Laboratory

What: Resilience Week: Transforming the Resilience of Cognitive, Cyber-physical Systems
When: Aug. 18-20, 2015
Where: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Following the success of last year’s GridGame competition, where students and other Resilience Week participants explored the cyber-physical challenges of operating a grid, this year’s competition is seeking at-large participants for a new Java version of the game.
