INL Radiological Control director honored for commitment to profession
Cheré Morgan, INL Radiological Control director, has received the Charles D. (Bama) McKnight Memorial Award from the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists for her outstanding efforts in the radiation protection field, leading to increased knowledge and professionalism among radiation protection technologists.
She is the fifth recipient of the prestigious award since it was established in 2005. The NRRPT’s objective is to encourage and promote the education and training of radiation protection technologists and, by doing so, promote and advance the science of health physics.
Seth Kanter, INL radiological engineering manager, presented the award at a recent ceremony in the Energy Innovation Laboratory Meeting Center. He and Michelle Kovach, both NRRPT panel of examiners members, submitted the award nomination. At the ceremony, Robert Boston, Department of Energy-Idaho Operations Office deputy manager and chief operations officer, and Juan Alvarez, INL deputy lab director and chief operating officer, praised Morgan’s accomplishments.
Morgan supports her staff in continuing their education, has an extraordinary passion for the radiological profession and a strong desire to always uphold the highest standards of professionalism no matter the challenges and pressures, Kanter said. “She inspires those around her to always do the right thing through her passion, energy and continued commitment,” he said.
A graduate of the University of Idaho and Eastern Idaho Technical College, Morgan was a driving force behind re-establishing a robust radiological protection program at EITC.
