Idaho National Laboratory to host national conversation in Delaware on protecting critical infrastructure

IDAHO FALLS — In the days following a natural disaster, the resilience of the power grid is an important topic. Whether through man-made attacks, or acts of nature, our critical infrastructure is vulnerable.

Millions of people were affected by wide-spread power outages in the days following hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Utilities worked to get the power on, and smart meters were credited with helping with response and restoration efforts. As the water recedes, there are lingering questions about the critical attributes of a robust and resilient power grid. Join the conversation on this topic, and others at the 10th annual Resilience Week symposium in Wilmington, Delaware, Sept. 18-22.

This symposium is dedicated to advancing the resiliency of critical cyber-physical infrastructures from unexpected and malicious threats, with a particular focus on industrial control systems (ICS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and cybersecurity.

Resilience has emerged in the national conversation as the ability to continue providing the most vital services while damaged infrastructure is restored. From significant electrical infrastructure failures to oil and natural gas concerns, INL is leading efforts to understand the challenges associated with restoration of services.

Resilience Week provides an opportunity for stakeholders to understand the state of research in cybersecurity for critical infrastructure in all 16 critical infrastructure sectors.

This year, the following plenary and keynote speakers will present their perspectives on the multidisciplinary challenges associated with resilience:

  • Zachary Tudor, Idaho National Laboratory
  • John McDonald, General Electric
  • Richard Mroz, New Jersey Board of Public Utilities
  • Jonathan Monken, PJM Interconnection
  • Mikhail Falkovich, Con Edison
  • Paul Stockton, Sonecon LLC
  • John-Francis Mergen, Raytheon
  • Sandeep Neema, DARPA
  • Stephen A. Flynn, Northeastern University
  • Scott F. Breor, Department of Homeland Security
  • Daniel Aldrich, Northeastern University
