Critical Materials

Feedstocks for Advanced Manufacturing

Research on advanced manufacturing feedstocks helps strengthen domestic production of critical materials for energy and industry.

The Feedstocks for Advanced Manufacturing initiative is developing scalable production methods for high-quality intermediate feedstocks, such as powders, wires and sheets, that are essential for advanced manufacturing processes.

Our advanced manufacturing work creates materials that operate reliably in harsh environments, including extreme temperatures, pressures, mechanical forces, radioactivity and corrosive chemicals.

This initiative contributes to a reliable domestic supply of specialized materials for high-tech applications. Our goal is to support the production of next-generation components for clean energy and national security, driving technological innovation and economic growth.

Feedstock Development

INL uses advanced capabilities to prepare and process a variety of materials. Our tools, including the planetary centrifugal vacuum mixer, high-energy ball mill, and cryomill, support mixing and grinding substances, ensuring consistent and effective material preparation.

Feedstock Characterization

INL provides essential feedstock characterization services to analyze material properties. This analysis is crucial for developing high-performance materials and supports various industrial applications.
