Idaho National Laboratory

Darren Stephens

Cybersecurity and Development department manager

As a lifelong Idahoan, I love the abundance of outdoor activities the area provides. What I love most about INL is our Cybercore mission and the tremendous impact the laboratory has on our nation. I love working with such a talented team, learning from our nation’s leading cybersecurity researchers and knowing our work has a real-world effect!

Rachel Craighead

Technical Recruiter

What drew me to INL was our talent acquisition team’s leadership and direction. I’ve been recruiting for nearly 10 years, and I knew this is where I wanted to build my career. One of the greatest privileges of recruiting for Idaho National Laboratory is connecting talented individuals with impactful careers. It's rewarding to help new hires join a passionate community that drives innovation in energy and national security.

Maria Eduardo Montezzo Coelho

model-based systems engineering scientist

The impact my work could have on a national scale attracted me to INL. Then I learned INL is leading efforts to design next-generation energy systems with digital engineering principles. My research interest has always been in digital engineering and bringing digital transformation to the design, construction and operation of infrastructure. I love INL’s innovative environment, collaborating with professionals from various backgrounds, and the flexibility and growth opportunities offered to employees.

Neil Walker

Information Security Department manager

INL’s many career opportunities enticed me to work here. I started in a very entry level position and have been able to learn, grow and advance my professional goals and pursuits. The most rewarding thing has been INL's full support in completing a bachelor’s and two graduate degrees all while working full-time. But what I like most about the laboratory is the people I work with and our common goal to further INL's mission.

Nicolas Woolstenhulme

irradiation testing lead

As a third-generation INL engineer born and raised in southeast Idaho, the laboratory is a family business in a way. But it’s much more than that. It’s a place where engineering and application drive science and research. There have been a lot of test reactors here over the years, but the workhorses that have endured through the decades are the material test reactors, such as INL’s Advanced Test Reactor and Transient Reactor Test Facility. Designing and overseeing experiments in these reactors has put me right at the heart of INL’s enduring mission.

Lindsi Shippen

CyberCommunications and Reporting Specialist

I didn’t imagine my career being at INL from the start. But looking back, I couldn’t have asked for anything better. INL provides so many opportunities to learn and grow. My favorite part about working here is knowing what we do is so important to our community, people’s lives and our nation. I get a sense of pride knowing I’m a part of it.

Robert Chapa

shift supervisor/chemistry coordinator

Idaho attracted me to INL as a Nuclear Navy student in 1985. It’s a great place for outdoor activities and raising a family. I left the Navy to start a job here in 1989. Working at the Advanced Test Reactor – a one-of-a-kind, world-class facility – has been the most rewarding part of my job. We do amazing things every day, and every day brings new challenges and rewards for working with a high-quality team.

Fei Xu

computer vision data scientist

My job offers extraordinary opportunities to contribute to INL's mission. It expands cutting-edge research to impact the characterization and qualification of critical materials. For example, my team has developed a new system and a suite of novel algorithms to centralize and secure data management, automate data analysis and accelerate scientific discoveries. My favorite things about working at INL are the supportive and flexible work environments, excellent colleagues and world-class research facilities.
