The Idaho National Laboratory is bringing its nuclear science trailer on a two-day tour through Wyoming, kicking off in Laramie on Monday, April 13. The trailer offers students and community members an interactive opportunity to explore nuclear science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
This mobile educational platform engages learners of all ages with hands-on exhibits and demonstrations that highlight the role of nuclear energy and advanced technologies in powering the nation’s future. Participants can explore a series of interactive exhibits that guide them from the fundamentals of atoms and elements to nuclear energy’s real-world applications.
“The nuclear science trailer helps build interest in nuclear energy, supports development of Wyoming’s future workforce, and reflects the strong partnership between INL and the state in advancing shared priorities in energy, education and innovation,” said Glen Murrell, INL’s Wyoming regional engagement lead.
INL experts make complex concepts such as radiation approachable through engaging, hands-on experiences, including opportunities to simulate working in a glove box and use a Geiger counter to measure radioactivity in everyday objects. This visit helps inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators while building awareness of INL’s mission.
Following its initial Laramie event, the trailer will visit Slade Elementary School before moving to Paintbrush Elementary for a second event. The trailer will then be transported and set up at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. The tour will continue Tuesday, April 14, with a stop at Rock Springs Junior High School followed by Kemmerer Junior and Senior High School.
