Leading the way for Idaho, INL earns 90% on Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index
Idaho Falls, Idaho – Idaho National Laboratory received a score of 90% on the 2019 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices relating to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation. This score makes INL the highest scoring business in Idaho, leading the way in inclusive practices. INL’s score reflects a commitment to LGBTQ workplace equality through tangible policies, benefits and practices.
“Many of these top-scoring companies have also become vocal advocates for equality in the public square,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “Time and again, leading American businesses have shown that protecting their employees and customers from discrimination isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s also good for business.”
Key policies that earned INL a top score include:
- Equitable benefits for LGBTQ employees and their families.
- Supporting an inclusive culture for everyone.
- Internal and external support of an inclusive culture from senior leadership.
- Nondiscrimination employment policies and practices for LGBTQ employees.
“Recognitions like this help solidify INL as a top employer of choice. We want the best candidates for our positions, no matter what their background is,” said Juan Alvarez, INL’s deputy laboratory director for Management and Operations and chief operating officer.
The 2019 CEI evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including nondiscrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBTQ community.
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.
INL is one of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) national laboratories. The laboratory performs work in each of DOE’s strategic goal areas: energy, national security, science and environment. INL is the nation’s leading center for nuclear energy research and development. Day-to-day management and operation of the laboratory is the responsibility of Battelle Energy Alliance.
