Idaho National Laboratory selected as CIO 100 award recipient

Idaho National Laboratory has been selected by IDG’s CIO as a 2018 CIO 100 award honoree. The 31st annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in digital innovation.

The award honors INL’s enterprise achievement to expand the innovative use of wireless technology at 170 facilities across the lab’s 890-square mile site. Given this expansive footprint, wireless network access is the only cost effective way of addressing the needs of the research community, while providing an innovative hands-off method of maintaining the location and inventory of research assets.

“As a laboratory performing some of the nation’s most important research and development projects, it is crucial that our scientists and researchers are equipped with modern wireless solutions,” said INL Chief Information Officer Robert Hillier. “Without these innovative resources, their ability to conduct research would be hindered.”

In addition to enabling INL’s scientific community to leverage the full functionality of electronic notebooks from wherever they conduct research, wireless expansion provides the ability to instantly oversee a “touchless” inventory of high-value assets.

“Every year, we are honored to showcase the technology innovation and business value delivered by our CIO 100 award winners. Each of these companies has achieved notable success in accelerating businesses to the front lines of the digital revolution,” said Maryfran Johnson, Executive Director of CIO Programs for CIO Events and the CIO Executive Council. “This year’s winners are inspiring examples of how IT leadership, business partnerships and customer engagement can reshape the future.”

The awards ceremony will be held August 15, at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
