Taken on March 31, 1952, engineers were making a final check before the reactor’s first startup. The Argonne-designed MTR operated from 1952 until 1970 and paved the way for generations of test reactors, including INL’s Advanced Test Reactor.
The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy has rolled out a nuclear innovation “blueprint” that urges continued technology innovation for existing nuclear, advanced nuclear, nuclear waste and fuel cycles.
Amid the #COVID19 pandemic, employees from INL and Battelle Energy Alliance, which manages the lab for the Department of Energy, raised a record-breaking amount of more than $630,000 for the United Way.
In 2020, United Way reported an increase in food scarcity, especially among low-income children and seniors. INL’s donation will fund tutoring, meal deliveries and access to medical care for those without insurance.
