Fiscal Year 2025
Making an impact
As Idaho’s fifth largest employer, the Idaho National Laboratory supports a workforce of over 6,200 highly skilled professionals — including scientists, engineers and technicians — whose expertise drives innovation and progress. INL’s economic influence extends well beyond its campus, playing a vital role in fostering small business growth and statewide economic development. For every job at INL, an additional 1.8 jobs are supported in other sectors, contributing to nearly 11,520 additional jobs across Idaho that are directly tied to INL’s operations.
Accomplishments and data are from fiscal year 2025.
Economic Development Impacts

Our growth as a laboratory strengthens both our local community and those throughout Idaho. We are committed to making Idaho stronger because Idahoans make us stronger. Small Business Impacts
Reaching small business goals
Fiscal year 2025 was another successful year partnering with small businesses to procure essential goods and services for INL’s missions. INL spent over $243 million with small businesses, with $377 million going to businesses in Idaho. This spending accounts for over 73.3% of the laboratory’s expenditure on goods and services, underscoring our unwavering commitment to empowering local economies and fostering small business growth.
The lab also exceeded all five socioeconomic spending goal areas: small-disadvantaged, historically underutilized business zone, women-owned, veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned.
While the lab purchases materials all over the nation, there is a particular focus on supporting Idaho’s economy. Local businesses are a large part of accomplishing work, and the lab counts on small businesses for items from office supplies to highly technical reviews and analyses.
