Joint Appointments
Joint appointments between INL and universities expand research and development in nuclear energy, integrated energy, and national security through strategic relationships and collaborations. The joint appointment program strengthens INL’s workforce goals and advances the mission of both institutions by:
- Fostering collaborative research opportunities
- Expanding academic networks
- Deepening and broadening capabilities and scientific impact
- Facilitating transdisciplinary research
- Providing access to specialized instrumentation and other research tools
- Giving students and interns new educational and mentorship opportunities
INL’s growing joint appointment program has over 61 appointees from 31 universities in the United States. Current partner institutions are shown below; see the Joint Appointees page for a complete list of participating researchers.
Joint appointments are typically initiated out of existing connections between researchers at INL and faculty at universities throughout the United States. Formalized appointments are jointly approved by both institutions.
