b'The U.S. Navy sends its SNF to the Naval Reactors Facility on the INL Site for examination and storage. As mentioned earlier, INL manages nuclear waste on the property. High-level waste includes byproducts of reprocessing SNF over 60 years ago. This reprocessing ended in 1992. In Idaho, the waste products were solidified and stored on-site in anticipation of a repository.Most transuranic waste (TRU) was generated from U.S. nuclear weapons production and is contaminated with elements heavier than uranium. INL received the weapons production waste from the former Rocky Flats Plant in Colorado from 1954 until 1989. That waste is sent for permanent geologic disposal at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant outside of Carlsbad, New Mexico. INL research programs also generate limited amounts of TRU waste.'
