b'What happens to thenuclear waste?N uclear waste is a broad concept. There are essentially three categories of nuclear wastehigh-level, transuranic and low-level. There is also spent nuclear fuel (SNF). The INL Site generates and manages several types of hazardous and nuclear waste, as well as SNF.SNF is different than nuclear waste. When we talk about SNF, which is fuel that was once used to power a reactor, you might picture green toxic waste in yellow buckets. But virtually all SNF is in a solid ceramic or metallic form that can be stored safely for long periods of time. Until the United States opens a national repository, most of this fuel is stored where it is generated.'
