Testing in-reactor probes
In order to understand how materials respond to irradiation, researchers need to get real-time information from experiments inside test reactors. The High Temperature Test Laboratory (HTTL) at INL creates specialized sensors that can fit inside a test reactor and monitor various properties within the core during irradiation experiments.
HTTL maintains a clean room and specialized equipment, allowing researchers to design, fabricate and test each of these sensors from scratch. While many of HTTL’s designs are used in nuclear research, they can be applied to any high-temperature testing needs.
