Operations at site facilities at Idaho National Laboratory will have an early work release today, Feb. 28. Due to severe weather and poor road conditions buses will depart site facilities at 2 p.m.

This early release is limited to the site operations for Battelle Energy Alliance, U.S. Department of Energy, Naval Reactors Facilities and Idaho Environmental Coalition. Employees at Idaho Falls locations or those able to telework are not included in the early release and should continue with their normal work activities.

U.S. Highway 20 was closed by Idaho Transportation Department; however, U.S. Highway 20 from the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) to the puzzle is open for egress. At this time employees will experience deteriorating road conditions on U.S. highways 26 and 33. All employees traveling to the site or returning to town should drive slowly, plan for extra time, ride the bus and avoid personal vehicle travel where possible. Shift change buses are planned to run on their normal schedule. The NRF swing shift buses will not operate this evening.

Original Release

The Idaho Transportation Department has closed U.S. Highway 20 from Idaho Falls to the junction with U.S. Highway 26 (commonly known as the “Puzzle”) due to low visibility from drifting snow. Those traveling from the junction to the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) may anticipate challenging winter driving conditions. All Site facilities are operating normally.

Battelle Energy Alliance, U.S. Department of Energy Idaho Operations Office, Naval Reactors Facility, Idaho Environmental Coalition and contracted staff are advised to travel on U.S. Highways 26 and 33 to reach Site locations.

Employees traveling to the Site should practice extreme caution, due to low visibility in some areas. All employees traveling to the Site, or returning to town should drive slowly, plan for extra time, ride the bus and avoid personal vehicle travel where possible. Bus operations will continue to assess road conditions.
