Curtailment update: Site operations curtailed at 2 p.m.; update on shift bus status

INL leadership and Emergency Operations made the decision to curtail site operations today at 2 p.m. for nonessential personnel. Buses made their evening pickups at 2 p.m. at ATR, MFC, SMC and all IEC facilities.

Our normal process for weather-related schedule changes and communications continues to be hampered by difficulties related to a snowplow accident near mile marker 276 on U.S. Highway 20. The Idaho Transportation Department is waiting to reopen the highway until the plow can be safely recovered.

Work for Idaho Falls was not curtailed this afternoon, with employees working their normal shifts as approved by their managers.

SHIFT BUS UPDATE:

Shift buses will roll at their normal times for MFC, SMC and IEC facilities, and for ATR security personnel this evening.

ATR operator shift buses will depart from Idaho Falls and Pocatello at 9 p.m. for the 10 p.m. operations shift turnover.

Curtailment ends for INL facilities at 11 a.m.

Snowplow crews are catching up and weather conditions have improved faster than forecasted. The work curtailment ends at 11 a.m. for Battelle Energy Alliance and Idaho Environmental Coalition facilities. Naval Reactors Facility day shift will remain curtailed. Bus pick-up times and locations for day shift workers are listed below. U.S. Highway 20 from Idaho Falls to the INL Puzzle has reopened.

Continued teleworking is encouraged for all employees after consulting with their managers. As always, all are encouraged to use the bus if they need to travel to desert facilities, or use extreme caution if using a personal vehicle.

Daytime bus lot schedule for MFC, ATR and IEC facilities (these buses will also stop at CFA):

  • Rigby                    11 a.m.
  • Rexburg               11:20 a.m.
  • Watersprings     11 a.m.
  • Yellowstone       11 a.m.
  • Westside             11 a.m.
  • Blackfoot             11 a.m.
  • Pocatello             11 a.m.

These are the only scheduled pickup points at this time. Please load the bus going to your work location; don’t wait for the next one, as more rerouting may be necessary.

SMC routes will run from all normal locations at 11:30 a.m. but some buses may be slightly delayed.

NRF remains curtailed for day shift; swing shifts will operate as normal.

Teleworking guidance for curtailed operations on Feb. 15

From the Emergency Operations Center:

Site and Idaho Falls facilities have curtailed operations until 11 a.m. this morning; further updates will be communicated as road condition assessments are made.

Teleworking:

Full-time teleworkers can work as normal, although some meetings may be impacted. Employees who telework or can flex their time with manager approval should do so. Teleworkers who need to retrieve laptops or equipment from Idaho Falls facilities in order to work may do so, subject to road conditions. In all these cases, employees should consult with their manager if they have questions.

Updates on road conditions and further possible curtailment of work will be provided in follow-up employee messages.

Original Release

Due to severe weather and poor road conditions, all operations at Idaho National Laboratory are curtailed today at the Site and Idaho Falls facilities. This includes Battelle Energy Alliance, U.S. Department of Energy, Naval Reactors Facilities and Idaho Environmental Coalition employees. More information will be provided after conditions are reassessed by 11 a.m.

Day shift buses will not make their routes this morning. Shift change buses are planned to run as soon as possible.

ITD closures include U.S. Highway 20 from Idaho Falls to the junction with U.S. Highway 26 at (commonly known as the “Puzzle.”) I-15 is also currently closed from Idaho Falls to the Montana border.
